Citizens run down burglar in San Pedro
A suspected thief in San Pedro has been caught in the act and chased down by alert citizens. The drama unfolded around seven-thirty Wednesday night in the San Pedrito neighbourhood of the island town. According to police, Andy Tillett returned to his home to find his front door open. When he entered he saw a man jumping out the window and running away. Tillett called out for help and soon several neighbours joined the chase, successfully detaining the intruder until police arrived. The suspect, forty-three year old Marlon Monsanto, a resident of the same part of town, has been charged with burglary. The Commissioner of Police is congratulating those citizens who so ably stood up for their community. Read More

1,001 Things Every Investor
Needs To Know

The BELTRAIDE Office exists to attract investors, and get things moving along once the investors are here. And now, they've got a handbook to help things along. Call it a thousand and one things every investor needs to know; it's the investor's manual and it took 15 months to prepare. It tells investors just about everything they need to know, short of where to buy the best tacos. Chairman of BELTRAIDE Lourdes Smith told us why it's important.
Lourdes Smith, BELTRAIDE Chairman
"So that anybody wanting to start a business in Belize knows the exact steps, what is involved in establishing a business so that they don't go turning around and revisiting departments, getting frustrated and so that they are able or aware of all the facilities or infrastructure that is available in the country of Belize."
Jules Vasquez,
Has there been an outcry for something like this?
Lourdes Smith,
"Well you always hear people getting frustrated because they have to go back to some office because they didn't do this or why did they have to do that, why did I have to get an environmental clearance. Well if they had a manual like this at the time that tells them that they need to do an environmental clearance for their type of project, they would have done it and not be frustrated to find out that they can't move ahead until they do the environmental clearance when they could have been doing it three months ago. They don't know that you have to do step three before step four and they might want to do step four after step one."

Glen Godfrey Says GOB's Making Him Take The Fall for DFC Mess

Glenn Godfrey, he's the former Chairman of the DFC, and consummate PUP insider turned villain of the DFC drama and Musa administration adversary. Last week, he was in court trying to block publication of the Lord report, and last night, he was on the Lik Road talk show with Michael Finnegan making it clear that the blame for DFC rests squarely with Ralph Fonseca and Said Musa. Not quite believable as the babe in the woods, but Godfrey did his best. He said that government induced the DFC into bad investments and the only mistake he made was trusting Ralph Fonseca and Said Musa.
Mike Peyrefitte, Co-Host
"Would you say that during that entire time, the Minister responsible for DFC, and or the Prime Minister were fully aware of what was going on?"
Glen Godfrey, Former DFC Chairman
"Absolutely. Government more than knew, they negotiated it. They came and said, 'oh we are making a contribution to capital because we have put down a deposit on this thing, that deposit will be a contribution to capital but you have to now manage this project.' We looked at some of the projects and we said guess what, these projects don't look feasible and they said, never mind, if there is a loss, government will cover it. The Minister said if there is a loss, government will..."
Michael Finnegan, Host
"But you said the Minister, which Minister?"
Glen Godfrey,

"Minister Fonseca."

Mike Peyrefitte,

"So he was pushing for Mahogany Heights and Los Lagos?"
Glen Godfrey,

"And Los Lagos and the Prime Minister pushed very hard for the houses, these plywood houses. So if I blame myself for anything, it is being too trusting that the government would keep its word. This government has no word. They have illustrated that many times, with Intelco, with the Port, several several projects where they give an exclusive and then turn around and give some..."

Mike Peyrefitte,

"You can't believe what they say?"
Glen Godfrey,

"I think that this government is a government of its most recent word. What killed the DFC were these projects that we all knew were not..."

Michael Finnegan,

Ill-conceived, corrupt."
Glen Godfrey,

I am not going to say they were corrupt.

I don't want to be sued on anything but certainly if there is any blame it has to be laid on the doorsteps of those people who brought those projects to the DFC.

I am very concerned that there is a deliberate attempt by this government to distract the blame, to say the people who were responsible is the management and the Board."

HEALTH AND BEAUTY
Aromatherapy - Cures for Everyone
by Bibi Chapmam
Athlete's foot
This is a common problem which certainly doesn't only affect athletes!  It's caused by a fungus that loves dark, moist areas of skin, hence its favorite breeding ground between the toes.
It is important to wash and dry your feet thoroughly especially between each toes, and the following aromatherapy treatment can be applied.
Add ten drops of tea tree oil to a foot bath of warm water.  Soak your feet in it for fifteen to thirty minutes. Repeat daily until the condition begins to improve, then weekly after that.
