Belizean scientist profiled on
U.S. television network

He is a world class scientist who has made the improvement of his native land's educational system a top personal priority. And while viewers in Belize have become well acquainted with Dr. Arlie Petters, beginning last night an audience of three hundred million people in the United States also got to know him. The vehicle is the television show Nova Science, which made its debut Tuesday on the P.B.S. network.
Arlie is a national hero. He never raises his voice or does anything to draw attention to himself. He lets his ideas do all the talking.
Born and raised in the Caribbean sun, he’s always had an intimate relationship with light.
Dr. Arlie Petters
“Light is the great messenger, travelling billions and billions of light years, carrying secrets.”
Arlie knows all about long and arduous journeys. His began in Belize, but it took him to Duke University where he is a member of both the Physics and Math departments, leading the way in the field of gravitational lensing.
Arlie boldly went where no mathematician has gone before, he devised a single mathematical formula that could reliable measure how the gravity of many objects such as galaxies and black holes shape light as it passes by. His calculation will help astrophysicists determine the structure and environment of objects they can’t see.
To see if your cable system carries P.B.S. check with your operator. You can also visit the P.B.S. Nova Science Now website for additional material on Dr. Petters. Read More
BIRTHDAY OF BELIZEAN PATRIOT
PHILIP GOLDSON OBSERVED
Today marks the birthday of Belizean patriot Philip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson. Goldson was born on July 25, 1923 and died October 3, 2001. Goldson’s personal heroism in overcoming blindness and continuing his careers in law and politics made him a role model for thousands of Belizeans. Philip Goldson was one of the founders of the People’s United Party, the National Independence Party, the United Democratic Party and the National Alliance for Belizean Rights.   Goldson is remembered for his ability to always stand firm in his beliefs regardless of party position or politics. In 1956 he resigned from the People’s United Party and in 1991 he resigned from the United Democratic Party over the Maritme Areas Bill. Among numerous achievements Phillip Goldson will be remembered for coordinating the building of Corozal Town after Hurricane Janet in 1955, pioneering the village council system and establishing the housing and planning department. As Minister of Social Services Philip Goldson established the Family Court, the Belize City Urban Department, the Department of Women’s Affairs and Disabilities Service Division. In 1986 he was elected as President of the Caribbean Association of the Disabled and in 1987 Vice president of Rehabilitation International. When a new terminal building was to be built at the International Airport the Prime Minister and cabinet decided to rename the facility the Philip S-W Goldson International Airport. Read More

HEALTH AND BEAUTY
Aromatherapy - Cures for Everyone

Shaving Rash
Often called razor burn, this can be anything from dry flaky skin, to really red, sore irritation after shaving.  Shaving flakes off dead cells from the skin's surface, therefore leaving your skin extra-sensitive.  Aftershaves usually contain alcohol, and can irritate an already sensitive skin. (Removal of dead surface skin cells are replaced with new cells which keeps the skin healthy and glowing)
Add three drops of Clary sage essential oil and three drops of lavender oil to half pint (300ml) of rosewater or orange flower water. Pat on your face after shaving and repeat two to three hours later.
(The above is especially useful to those who use the old method type of shaving)
