HURRICANE DEAN NEARS
SAN PEDRO 
Expected to make landfall in the next 24 hours, the storm track for Hurricane Dean has slowly moved south to where Belize and Ambergris Caye are now just south of the projected landfall point. Prepare for strong winds and waves, and listen to Reef Radio for updates... DEAN GETS CLOSER
Hurricane Dean could become a Category Five hurricane late Monday, and is expected to hit the Yucatan Peninsula early Tuesday morning, the National Hurricane Center said.
Dean was located between Belize and the Cayman Islands at 11 a.m. EDT and heading west near 21 mph with maximum sustained winds near 150 mph. Investors have been watching the progress of Dean for potential impact it may have on the Gulf of Mexico, where oil and gas companies have significant refining and other operations. Hurricane warnings are in effect in southern Mexico near the Yucatan Peninsula and along the Eastern coast of Belize down to the Guatemalan border. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for Jamaica, eastern Cuba and in Mexico above Cancun. Dean has already killed eight across the Caribbean. Officials in southern Texas began opening emergency operations centers and passing out sandbags along the coast. At the southern tip of Texas, Cameron County officials urged residents to evacuate ahead of the storm.
